June 2013

In the beginning of June, I hosted a bridal celebration for my co-worker Sonya. She is marrying my co-EM intern Charley (both above) in a couple months, so it was a great reason to celebrate as intern year came to a close.
A bunch of us Harbor-UCLA girls got together at Wilson Park for snacks and conversation on a lovely day (June 2 to be exact).
Co-intern Jimmy and his wife Isis got glammed up along with the rest of the EM crew for graduation on June 21. It was sad to see our PGY-3s move on, but it was exciting to hear where they ended up.
Graduation also marked the end of my intern year. What a year it was! Ending on C-team (aka cardiology) was quite a way to go out... stress, sleeplessness, and sick patients made me feel like I earned the vacation that awaited me.
First stop: Boise, Idaho for Adam's sister's wedding. Emily and Alex were married at the Train Depot, which overlooked our state's Capitol.
They had a lovely new tradition of sealing love letters and a bottle of wine during the ceremony, which would be opened on their fifth wedding anniversary.
Adam officiated the beautiful ceremony, which was followed by a fun reception complete with tasty food (Mexican food from Andrade's and a late-night pizza truck), dancing, toasts, cake, views from the bell tower, and a photo booth (see Mark and Cathy below).

After a trip that was far too short, I bid southern Idaho farewell and returned to the LA-area. Harbor interns got together near the Hermosa pier for an end-of-the-year celebration.

We reminisced over the past year of highs, lows, and a huge variety of rotations. Then several folks jetted off around the world for their "intern week" vacation.
I took advantage of the time off to meet childhood friend Rachael in Solvang for a wine tasting getaway. Rachael drove down from Santa Cruz where she recently finished her PhD in Psychology.

We toasted to a variety of milestones including over 20 years of friendship, Rachael's recent engagement, and her new tenure-track position in Las Vegas!
We also toasted to the long-awaited airing of my Price is Right episode. Though the taping occurred nearly a year beforehand, the world finally saw me "come on down" and meet Drew Carey.
The episode can be viewed online here. Spoiler alert: it took me the whole show to get on stage, when I finally bid closest to the actual retail price of a video camera. I won $1000 in the Grand Game then another $1000 by spinning $1 on the wheel. Though I didn't make it to the Showcase Showdown after a spinoff, I certainly felt like a big winner.
June was quite a whirlwind of a month. It ended with a big move from Lomita to Long Beach, where Adam and I are now co-habitating. The boxes still aren't unpacked, but Wentworth doesn't seem to mind...
