May 2013

In May Adam and I enjoyed some time outside in the California sun. We threw a frisbee at Redondo Beach (above) and went stand-up paddleboarding in Huntington Beach. When I wasn't enjoying the great outdoors, I was enjoying some shifts on my home turf in the adult and pediatric emergency departments.
On a beautiful weekend day, Adam and I tackled a hike on our SoCal bucket list in Griffith Park. We enjoyed some excellent views of the Hollywood sign and downtown LA.
Griffith Observatory greeted us at the top of our uphill climb. We explored the various exhibits inside including a life-size periodic table and scales to calculate our weight on each planet in the solar system. One of the guides was especially helpful at decoding the rotunda's "Advancement of Science" murals.
Before starting the dreaded cardiology rotation, I spent an afternoon by the pool with co-workers Juliana and April. Then, on May 30 I began my final rotation of intern year in the CCU. Not only would the rotation be the most grueling in terms of quantity and acuity of patients, workload, and duty hour violations, but June was destined to be a jam-packed month of craziness. Stay tuned!
